The A. Gemelli University Hospital IRCCS’Poison Control Center (CAV) has existed since 1971 and provides toxicological advice throughout the national territory. Since 1995 it has been a regional and specialist reference center for emergencies (Deliberation of the Lazio Regional Council of 19/4/1995, number 3250).
The reference number of the POISON CONTROL CENTER is 06 3054.343 and it ensures a direct H24 access to the telephone support for users.
The Poison control Center is a service provided by the Complex Operative Unit of Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Clinical toxicology. It includes a specialist in Medical Toxicology, a member of the medical staff and a biologist. It takes advantages of the continuous collaboration of Specialists and Doctors with training in Anesthesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care.
It is a free service for both the population and the health care professionals and takes calls from all over the country.
The Staff is also a permanent member of the “Civil Defense Technical Group of Rome’s Province”, with consulting duties for all unconventional, accidental or deliberate emergencies.
In the new LEAs (basic levels of healthcare of the SSN 2017), the Poison Control Center is included among the 8 areas of activity of hospital care that the SSN must be able to ensure to the citizen.
